When I took a look for the sign off sheet, it made me think about the story for my Leporello. I pointed out the initial ideas and spirit of the whole story.
It will not be act-playing roles, no dialogues. This six pieces story will take a viewer into a mysterious world of Native Americans.
I spent a lot of time thinking about how I want to present the culture and sense of spiritual world perceive by tributes eyes. I interested in the beliefs of this culture.
I want to start explaining the background for the strip. Native Americans believed that all living things were watching over by guardian spirits. That could be; trees, wind, animals or people. Mostly, forces of nature.
Usually, the young boys were overcoming the ''journey'' to become a man. They believed that the guardian spirit, once fund, would bestow a special power on the boy and then, he would return to the tribe. Meaning of great spirit was a bit similar to be watched by an angel in the Christian religion. The Great Spirit is an attribute to the Christian's God. An interesting fact about the passage into maturity is the way of giving a prove. The quests depend on the tribe. In overall, the boy had to undergo an ordeal to prove his worth. To be closer to spirit, some men went into the wilderness alone. Or usually, they would fast and take drugs. The worst, in my opinion, was inflicting wounds on the body. The last thing was expecting a sight from their spirits. That was usually a clue, guidelines to make an important life decision.
The final 'process' of being an adult is a ritual where they are given a new name to indicate their status.
This short explanation should clarify a unique spirit role in their life. I wanted to introduce how important was for some people the harmony with nature. How they named every lives and phenomenon. I decided that knowledge story of becoming an adult will be a good material to introduce it to the children and adults as well. Maybe they will take from it a lesson, maybe this will change a perceptiveness of everyday life and what surrounds us. Or it will be a decent colourful story to watch before fall asleep.
It is up to people, what they see the world and the meaning of this project. For me is a personal journey, a perfect description of my curiosity among the cultures. Is all about broadening horizons in terms of colours and discovering creative artists, to give my project a meaning.
The story will take place in northern America. The main character - a boy, will be introduced from the beginning, hidden in a cave. The characteristic features, such as
. I wanted to show the humanity, not a personality. I will focus on his lifetime. The story begins obviously from his birth. But I want to capture it differently, by tributes believes. So, it will be a little smoke coming out of the cave. The background will be playing a significant role because it will begin on the day and ended on the night. Below, it is an illustrated version of this idea. Of course, the sheet was not enough space to pointed to each period. But in the next posts, I will develop this sketch.
This smoke will be appearing throughout his life. The rest of the Leporello will be full of views and ordinary mental journey to become an adult. The purple haze will exact in the initial parts. The final ritual will end the story. I come up with not giving a name, I will keep that to readers.
I still working on the title of the Leporello. It will be a journey to find a spirit, not a personal thing. I gave up with the decent name of the character as a title. Also, according to the tutor's advise, it will not be named Purple Haze.
The fact that I will be inspired by Van Hertbruggen's art, exactly by his book The Little Dog That Nino Didn't Have. My title will establish the spiritual phenomenon, or the spirit themself.

This post is quite vague and demonstrates not a lot of understanding of your subject - the fact that your only reference for this is a website aimed at children makes this clear. Your research and the idea supporting your outcomes needs to be stronger and must have greater depth. I found this link from Faust Gallery that gives a better OVERVIEW of the subject: https://www.faustgallery.com/natures-role-in-american-indian-culture/ but this should be your starting point.
ReplyDeleteYour sketch also has little information or sense of what you are doing. It would be good if you could spend more time and focus on what you are making and the message you are attempting to get across with this work.
