Icebreaker: Self Portrait

On today's class I made a Self-Portrait. I decided to emphasize the inner feelings which I have been struggled during lockdown and Christmas break.

I tried to show the different perspective of self portrait. A new brief and new look.

I also tried to avoid the traditional frame, posture, tedious shot with straight forward message. Like ''it's me'' - that is all. But that is dumb. I took it by artistic, deeper way. My perspective. Let's see the world by my eyes.

I wanted to show the perpective of the stranger. Who just entered to the room. Then all the action starts. Some of the significant objects (with remberance of this time) and me, laying on the bed, covered with blanket.

The position and diagonals of this art are not made by the accident. Basing on my culture knoweledge, I connected two paintings from baroque artists. The first, is named The Death of Sardanapalus (1827) from the brush of Eugène Delacroix. It currently hangs in Musem Louvre in Paris.

It present a death itself. Rather the moment before it will happened. The greater capture of surrender and total destructre. It looks like a never ending story. How the kingdom of this historical emperor ended. With such a dramatic, full of essentials picture.

The second one relates to the previous topic. It is an essence of baroque atmosphere, full of tension and uncertainty. The Entombment of Christ, famous Caravaggio painting from 1603-1604. Currently is in the Vatican Pinacoteca. No suprisingly, it has many copies. But the essential dramatic again, has been pictured with increlable result. With one I am sure, it is one of the painting in the history, which turned the aim of art. To amaze the audience. By expression extracted from the artist, viewer stteping into darker world. Of pain, scream of loosing and dying. The gesture of touching the stone, it means touching of death. The cold stone... Being naked and ready for the last farewell.

Yes, it was a shorter explanation of my artistic investigation. But it is just a beginning.

(I will change the spelling and grammar later)

  1. A really good post, with some very thoughtful ideas and reasons for creating the image you made. Also an inventive approach to the self portrait, describing the way a lot of us feel about life at the moment. Remember to add a click through link underneath your research images so we can go directly to your source material. Good effort, keep it up!

Art Portfolio Project: First update - The story

When I took a look for the sign off sheet, it made me think about the story for my Leporello. I pointed out the initial ideas and spirit of the whole story.  It will not be act-playing roles, no dialogues. This six pieces story will take a viewer into a mysterious world of Native Americans.  I spent a lot of time thinking about how I want to present the culture and sense of spiritual world perceive by tributes eyes. I interested in the beliefs of this culture. I want to start explaining the background for the strip. Native Americans believed that all living things were watching over by guardian spirits. That could be; trees, wind, animals or people. Mostly, forces of nature.  Usually, the young boys were overcoming the ''journey'' to become a man. They believed that the guardian spirit, once fund, would bestow a special power on the boy and then, he would return to the tribe. Meaning of great spirit was a bit similar to be watched by an angel in the Christian religi...

Set Project: The exact reason why and sketches

I have not straightened why I chose to illustrate the lyrics. As you may have noticed, I know quite a lot about music from the last century and always dreamed about the connection with visual art. Especially in this case, when the album is laid out as a story. Therefore, taking advantage of this opportunity I intend to make something familiar using illustration. You see, songs have a lyric - a story. And I want to share with those, by giving my version. In fact, Primitivism is related to the 60s pop culture and the insights I will publish gradually. The album that I chose is unique in terms of the tracklist.  Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band  has no gaps between tracks. Therefore they made an album that sounds like one continuous song. ''Highly debated it is considered as a one of the first concept album'' (The HollyHobs, 2020). Some of the songs had been established according to the newspapers headers/stories.  The reasons why I chose this relation to the theme ...

Set Project: Final 3D piece

It is high time to show the final 3D outcome. I have been waiting for a sunny day to take a picture of Mr Kite. I found a perfect corner in the window ledge. I managed to find some white sheets for the ''session''. Unfortunately, they were curved and undulating and having no extra ones I tried to make it professional.  All this showcase is after Photoshop edit.  On those shoots I wanted to emphasise his posture. Nevertheless, it is still a bit stiff. Here I captured all his attributes in front of him. And one more, with his hands up. Which personally, I can compare them with gorilla's.  I took two pictures from different angles. In order to zoom in the portrait details. In addition, one from the front. I made a few mistakes regarding background preparation. I could glue or taped pages together to avoid the gaps. However, the software edit made a brighter impression, which is definitely an advantage.  Maybe a thicker paper and front light would reach a more prof...
