Set Project: Class Development Exercise

To feel more confortable with an idea, a plan with thoughts to summarirse the good and bad aspects will be initial.
On class we have been looking into a significant role of strong idea. Frankly speaking this is a common problem. Most of my pieces were fault in the end, becouse at first it had seemed to be great, but in time it found out as an overwhelming.
I always dream big about the project. And I make it usually quite challenging. In most cases I did not have a essential materials, and I giving up. Becouse it will not be like I imagined.

That was a though introduction, but I wanted to mention how simillar this problem is to me.
Teacher presented us a 3 methods, how to build a affordable ideas investigation.
The first was ''the mediative approach'' which was surprinsigly useful. I did not realise that I could 1:1 imagine the whole piece. It was that when I had close my eyes, but after that, I could not draw it perfectly as I seen. I add a comments and still it was not enough, so I started with second method.
The ''Mountain & Valley'' helped me with writing down my thoughts. After all I realized that it can be difficult to reach the top of the mountain, but if I will stop on lower part, it still will be a satisfactory result. I always wanted to create a short story in that kind of vibe. It is maybe another peak to get in, but it will be initial in my artistic path.

I want to separate the story. It will starts from sunset and ends on the night. To do this, I will be basing on the pictures. According to my last research, artist Anton van Hertbruggen does it each time when it comes to create an illustration. Below, I would like to insert a photos, how he working in his studio.

I really admire him for this quotation:

“He says he’s always searching for a utopian world for himself in his work and is happiest when visualising how things could have been in a certain time or place” (Hertbruggen, 2013)

Van Hertbruggen, Memoires Of A Suburban Utopia, (2012)

I found a blog where someone went into a deeper research behind Anton's proccess in studio. It perfectly clarifies how he reached that effect. Here is a link

He replicates the real pictures on light table using pencil and then a black paints. But only for shape of trees, etc,. Mostly it is a long way of creation. ''He works half manual/half digital; Pencil sketches, using a light box for outlining, painting, scanning in and adding layers, colors and textures, etc… There’s no telling how many hours he really spent on my particular project. He did an incredible job.'' (ARMONJAY, 2014)

Studio, Van Hertbruggen, (2014)

This research is meant to understand the stages of my work. To be realistic with what I want to reach. Van Hertbruggen studio's research helps me with select the right tools and how to plan my work. In next posts I will publish my sketches and pictures of landscapes.

  1. Luiza, remember you have a tutorial in Week 3. You must attend this. You have been missing classes and therefore I haven't had a chance to talk to you in person regarding your project idea. It is really important that you attend so I understand completely what it is you are planning and I can help you to develop it.
You have done some interesting research here - when you come to your tutorial, make sure you have a clear set of objectives, aims, research elements and the techniques you are going to use to create your project.

Research on Odilon Redon

According to the title of my blog post, today I am going to take deeper research of the XIX century artist - Odilon Redon. All the information should be based on my notes, which I took during the class. In terms of preparing for future lecturers in University life. But I found out difficult to caught the important notes in the current situation. I believe that the lecturers in real life, in a face to face system, will be more beneficial for both sides. Anyway, I would like to support the pieces of information about the lifetime of today's character. In order to make my writing more valuable.  He was born in Bordeaux, France on April 20, 1840. Died in  His nickname was created after mother's first name, Odile. His father pulled him to study architecture instead of art, but in 1857 Redon failed the entrance exams for architectural studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. But Odilon stayed in Paris with influential, famous friends such as Charles Baudelaire, Gustave Flaubert, and Edg...

Set Project: Final 3D piece

It is high time to show the final 3D outcome. I have been waiting for a sunny day to take a picture of Mr Kite. I found a perfect corner in the window ledge. I managed to find some white sheets for the ''session''. Unfortunately, they were curved and undulating and having no extra ones I tried to make it professional.  All this showcase is after Photoshop edit.  On those shoots I wanted to emphasise his posture. Nevertheless, it is still a bit stiff. Here I captured all his attributes in front of him. And one more, with his hands up. Which personally, I can compare them with gorilla's.  I took two pictures from different angles. In order to zoom in the portrait details. In addition, one from the front. I made a few mistakes regarding background preparation. I could glue or taped pages together to avoid the gaps. However, the software edit made a brighter impression, which is definitely an advantage.  Maybe a thicker paper and front light would reach a more prof...

Art Portfolio Project: First update - The story

When I took a look for the sign off sheet, it made me think about the story for my Leporello. I pointed out the initial ideas and spirit of the whole story.  It will not be act-playing roles, no dialogues. This six pieces story will take a viewer into a mysterious world of Native Americans.  I spent a lot of time thinking about how I want to present the culture and sense of spiritual world perceive by tributes eyes. I interested in the beliefs of this culture. I want to start explaining the background for the strip. Native Americans believed that all living things were watching over by guardian spirits. That could be; trees, wind, animals or people. Mostly, forces of nature.  Usually, the young boys were overcoming the ''journey'' to become a man. They believed that the guardian spirit, once fund, would bestow a special power on the boy and then, he would return to the tribe. Meaning of great spirit was a bit similar to be watched by an angel in the Christian religi...
