Set Project: Initial Ideas consideration

Today I will look into developing my idea for Purple Haze.

This post was created after I had read a comment from my tutor. I must admit that I was focused on the outcome too fast. I think that an overwhelming is the relation to the progression route, which in my case it is an illustration. This turned me to create a story.

But it was without an initial idea. Tutor advised me to look into an origin and connection to the purple. This allows me to connect it into a background of course, and in the creation. Not a long time ago I have starting to be inspired by Native American culture. I think it would be a perfect motive for my story. They were very sensitive in describing nature. Contrary to European, they were appreciate Mother Earth. Therefore, the colours were initial in their lives. As well as I posted it previously, they could be inspired by it.

Pocahontas, 1995

Research purple in Native American culture:

''The color purple was not used as war paint or face paint. It was seen as a sacred color and symbolised power, mystery and magic. The color of purple was produced from coneflowers, Blueberries and hibiscus.''(Symbols et al., 2021)

Considering this, purple has a magical spirit. Something that took place just before the sun goes down. It reminds me of the animation from my childhood. I mean Pocahontas, one of the most known Disney's productions. There was a particular moment when she stands on the cliff. When everything started moving around her, basically she was falling in love, but it was a moment when we could feel the magic. Colourful leaves were flying and a whole world stopped. Unfortunately I did not remember the whole movie. But I think I do not need it because I want to use something that stayed in my mind, which seems to be connected to this project.

It is a continuation of my thoughts, but still I want to stay in indian culture. And by the time I will add a new research, including what I have discover and what I decided to use from it.

I come up with an idea, that the main character in my story will be named Purple Haze. Everything will take place in times before European occupancy in North America. On Leporello, I will present a short period of the main's character life. The goal of this project should be an awareness of the beauty of the world. Because the topic essentially reminds me of this area. Next steps, in terms of developing the story for the project, I will publish shortly.

Furthermore, I decided to look deeply into the culture of native Americans. I need to feel the spirit, and mentality of those people. I have only 4 weeks to show the finished project, so I can watch movies instead of reading books. To sum up, it would be a good material to create a new post about it.

Also, artists research, how I want to create it, and which illustrators inspired me.

  1. You are clearly considering your options here but it would be beneficial to hear a clearer idea about what you intend to do in terms of the story outline, your outcomes, the techniques you are going to use. Therefore you should post your SMART outcomes before you come to your tutorial in Week 3 so there is a firm idea about what you plan to do.

Set Project: The exact reason why and sketches

I have not straightened why I chose to illustrate the lyrics. As you may have noticed, I know quite a lot about music from the last century and always dreamed about the connection with visual art. Especially in this case, when the album is laid out as a story. Therefore, taking advantage of this opportunity I intend to make something familiar using illustration. You see, songs have a lyric - a story. And I want to share with those, by giving my version. In fact, Primitivism is related to the 60s pop culture and the insights I will publish gradually. The album that I chose is unique in terms of the tracklist.  Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band  has no gaps between tracks. Therefore they made an album that sounds like one continuous song. ''Highly debated it is considered as a one of the first concept album'' (The HollyHobs, 2020). Some of the songs had been established according to the newspapers headers/stories.  The reasons why I chose this relation to the theme ...

Art Portfolio: Planning primary research

For your project, you will need some primary research so that you can either understand your market and focus your work more clearly in a real-world context or you will need background research to inform your project work that comes from a primary source. I conducted research on familiar comic books or something with past matters content. I found a story of the beginnings of The Beatles. It is also related to my project.  The  Baby's in Black: The Story of Astrid Kirchherr & Stuart Sutcliffe  takes reader back to the early 60s, when Paul, John, George, Pete and Stuart decided to extend their musical abilities by playing in Kaiserkeller club, Hamburg. The book was originally published in Germany in 2010. Therefore, the vibe of this book ideally reflects the place and experiences. This ultimate graphic novel has 195 pages. Accordingly black&white design reflecting the title. The author, Arne Bellstorf used individual renditions by pulling a lot of effort into...

Set Project: Sketches and coming back to the first plan

In the last days, I concluded that I should focus on the reasons why I choose this topic and the style of this project. I think I started to be weak and not sure what I want to do. I think the reason is in a large number of researches. Same with techniques and artists to look at. I summarise that I am not capable to mix various inspirations at once. I came back to my first inspiration Anto van Hertbruggen. Because I always wanted to make art like that, no matter what's it gonna take. Here I will discuss the elements which I want to use to combine this pice in one. Here is the whole work with the background. As I mentioned before, I looked at how Anton work on his illustrations. He usually filling few sheets in drawings (as layers for one illustration).  First, I found a great view on google maps. I am interested in the territories of Canada and the northern landscape. The place is in Northwest Territories, in Yellowknife.  click I sketch this place on two sheets of paper. Then...
