Set Project: Working on software

This week is one of the busiest. Furthermore, I got a flu, but I manage the time for my project as well. Today I want to share with my yesterday's progress on Adobe Illustrator. Yes, on this software I decided to vectorise the background and fill the colours. Here is a sketch explaining this idea.  In overall, I was confused, whether I should start digitalizing on Photoshop. I remember from previous experience, that Illustrator has an option of traceing image to easy transforming into editable patches. This prosess I will explain in the next section. This sketch explains how I will separate those 6 pieces. I came with an idea to split the horizontal A4 document into two parts to obtain A5 resolution. So, I need to create 3 documents from three background drawings. I have already done two of them.  Here is an unnecessary screenshot with general settings per each document. Firstly, I need to edit pictures what I took before.   I was changeing the levels to gain the hig...

Action Plan: Set Project

We made also on today's session a visual Action Plan sheet, to help us reaching the goals for the Set Project.                                                          WORK IN PROGRESS Here is the  link . Here is the final sheet. Which I believe, will help me to complete my steps.

Art Project: Feedback and improving works

Today in session, we have been focusing on constructive feedback. Regarding yesterday's presentation about the Set Project, listeners were required to fill the feedback forms. I got some of those on dmu mail.  The most repeating answers have a more informative character. Personally, I saw the shallow statements in which I cannot pick anything constructive.  Digression... This is a good effort to implement critical feedback. I wish I could get some of them. The truth is, that the works are not created only with self-criticism. There is a percentage efficiency that pulling us to think wider with external points of views. Other's people advises could be touching in some way. But the truth is, that most of us are selfish. When it comes to hearing criticism points, we can receive it as an injustice, but that is a part of infraction the comfort zone.  People determinate their own raison d'être in some points. I just want to tolerate that and understand. I found out that they do...

Art Portfolio: Collaboration Task

Milk advertisement,                                  as a part of the mini group project with Michaela and Francisco. The aim was to create a simple advertisement. It was a perfect possibility to evaluate the initial skills in presenting the product. We included a poster, product design and elements of graphic design.  Brainstorming process we persuaded online, so we do not have a sheet with ideas. - makes you strong, bodybuilder -smile -nature We agreed that I will make a cow design, Michaela will make a poster (background etc.) and Francisco - product design. My first idea was mostly about energy and movement. To create an unusual thing for the eye. I think it is a part of the advertising. I came up waving hands and milk-spilt titles ''work flow''. I just imagine that with a simple blue background.  But it was my concept. When we gather lately to combine ideas, we had a different point of vi...

Set Project: Native American Art and History

Today I have a tutorial regarding my project process. In 19 century, Native American people developed their own style to memorised the tribe history on paper. It has a symbolic character. They made it with ink, pencil and watercolours. It created the specific system, which can be called a ledger ''The men then memorialized their deeds in pictures that they used with their oral recollections of bravery and battle, victory and loss.''(NMAH | Albert H. Small Documents Gallery - Keeping History: Plains Indian Ledger Drawings, 2010) the well-known pieces are from 1875/78 in today Oklahoma territory. Probably young warriors based in one of the Cheyenne and Kiowa tribe. This knowledge we only appreciate  The Bear's Heart Ledger Book . This book of twenty-four drawings prepared by Bear’s Heart, one of the Fort Marion prisoners of war. How did that happen? Do that Native Americans have access to pencils and watercolours? It begins with civilized prisoners by Richard Henry Pr...

Second tutorial feedback

Yesterday I had a tutorial regarding my progress in creating Leporello. The tutor gave me advice on what direction I can evaluate my story. Yes, I shared the short version of the main character experiences. But still, I will be working and expand Native American ethnics. Very aimed and clarifying was the chart prepared for this meeting. It allowed me to analyze my Weakness and Strenght of the project. But the most useful pieces of information have been concluded in the Action section.  We agreed that I need to post sign off sheet (which I have already done, on the post 'Sign off commentary'. Also, I need to think about the title of my project. I will leave that case for later because I still keep on research on which tribe I want to place in my story. Tutor advised me to look at Native American's translation of the title ''Purple Haze'', which is a good point to concern. Even though, when I have looking for possible versions, I found a variety of tongues. Th...

Set Project: Sketches and coming back to the first plan

In the last days, I concluded that I should focus on the reasons why I choose this topic and the style of this project. I think I started to be weak and not sure what I want to do. I think the reason is in a large number of researches. Same with techniques and artists to look at. I summarise that I am not capable to mix various inspirations at once. I came back to my first inspiration Anto van Hertbruggen. Because I always wanted to make art like that, no matter what's it gonna take. Here I will discuss the elements which I want to use to combine this pice in one. Here is the whole work with the background. As I mentioned before, I looked at how Anton work on his illustrations. He usually filling few sheets in drawings (as layers for one illustration).  First, I found a great view on google maps. I am interested in the territories of Canada and the northern landscape. The place is in Northwest Territories, in Yellowknife.  click I sketch this place on two sheets of paper. Then...

Art Portfolio: Experimentation task

In this class, we have been concentrating on creativity and how to express ourselves. Billy Schenck,  Where the Law does not Prevail, (1996) I have been searching for the right picture, for inspiration. I made a sketch basing on this painting.  I picked this sketch because it was the only piece with a person. I wanted to evaluate that sketch. There is a lack of movement, which is like a monument. In general, is a bit blank, some kind of rapture. I can't feel the space, is soo linear without a shadow. So I decided that it will be a perfect occasion to give one of my sketches more expression.  I think that this piece is bolder than the previous attempt. I started the same as with the previous one. The difference was with the organisation space and direction lines. I solved the problem with shadows, blurring the pencil lines made a feeling of depth and motion. I could diverse this by adding a darker effect.  The good points I made with pencil gestures, maybe overa...

Art Portfolio: Storyboard

In class, we continue the topic in regards to character drawing. This time, storyboard. A very useful skill in terms of creating the idea for: presenting a product, a story and illustrate... a poem. For my progression route, I could choose a poem or graffiti.  I came with the idea that the best way is to explore some English poems because I like reading them in my mother tongue. I did not have much time, I picked the first website with a collection of poems. There I can browse by subjects. I picked a Beat period. And the Kaufman's poem came up, titled  Believe, Believe. ''Believe in this. Young apple seeds, In blue skies, radiating young breast, Not in blue-suited insects, Infesting society’s garments.   Believe in the swinging sounds of jazz, Tearing the night into intricate shreds, Putting it back together again, In cool logical patterns, Not in the sick controllers, Who created only the Bomb.   Let the voices of dead poets Ring louder in your ears Than the screech...

Set Project/Art Portfolio: Thoughts and character design

I have been searching for a lot of inspirations to keep the right path on my project. However, a lot of things changed. About two weeks ago, I was sure how the project should look. I always wanted to create the background a bit in digital and a bit by hand. But when it comes to drawing the main character, I struggle with where this project going to. The aim of an illustration is narration, which I forgot about it. I still try to not rush and take advantage of more spare time. I still developing the skill of drawing likeness. In conclusion to yesterday's post, I started the day with character design. This is also an Art Portfolio task.  It was a long process and a lot of new sheets... I separate the workplace window, to easier look at the pictures. This is the first sketch. I do not like it, is too realistic. The way of look reminds me of Disney's movie characters. At this stage, I just a bit convinced myself about good points on this sketch. I needed to move on. And the fear ...
