Set Project: Sketches and coming back to the first plan

In the last days, I concluded that I should focus on the reasons why I choose this topic and the style of this project. I think I started to be weak and not sure what I want to do.

I think the reason is in a large number of researches. Same with techniques and artists to look at. I summarise that I am not capable to mix various inspirations at once.

I came back to my first inspiration Anto van Hertbruggen. Because I always wanted to make art like that, no matter what's it gonna take.

Here I will discuss the elements which I want to use to combine this pice in one.

Here is the whole work with the background. As I mentioned before, I looked at how Anton work on his illustrations.

He usually filling few sheets in drawings (as layers for one illustration).

First, I found a great view on google maps. I am interested in the territories of Canada and the northern landscape. The place is in Northwest Territories, in Yellowknife. click

I sketch this place on two sheets of paper. Then, according to Anton's works, I painted them using black acrylic. To divide the brush touches, I used a thicker one for the blackest spaces and the thin one for water and branches.

This sheet I will use to fill the base color in the software.

The second layer is for textures, which I amplify them on the first sheet.

Here is the same example, whole my process will take a few sheets (mostly for texture) per one particular view.

Everything that I did is a part of the experimentation process. But I do not exclude if I will stay with those pieces.
The last picture presents the beginning of the story. You can see the sketch of a tent on the left side - the 'birth' place of the main character. Then, the second black&white piece is the continuation of the story - maturity time.
I only need to sketch and paint the last sheet to fulfil the Leporello. - the ''END'' chapter.
I sketch this idea to explain it clearer:

I also considered clouds, they will be appeared till the sun goes down.
Also, the clouds I took from my pictures.

I have been also preparing to draw the shadows and lines of those clouds.

On the next post I will share the rest of my sketches. Like tents and tribes.

  1. Include your reference images (Northwest Territories) so I can see what you are working from. Some of the commentary on your posts is too conversational - remember to use more academic language. You should demonstrate the outline of your story and the images you are working on in a clearer more concise post.

Research on Odilon Redon

According to the title of my blog post, today I am going to take deeper research of the XIX century artist - Odilon Redon. All the information should be based on my notes, which I took during the class. In terms of preparing for future lecturers in University life. But I found out difficult to caught the important notes in the current situation. I believe that the lecturers in real life, in a face to face system, will be more beneficial for both sides. Anyway, I would like to support the pieces of information about the lifetime of today's character. In order to make my writing more valuable.  He was born in Bordeaux, France on April 20, 1840. Died in  His nickname was created after mother's first name, Odile. His father pulled him to study architecture instead of art, but in 1857 Redon failed the entrance exams for architectural studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. But Odilon stayed in Paris with influential, famous friends such as Charles Baudelaire, Gustave Flaubert, and Edg...

Set Project: Final 3D piece

It is high time to show the final 3D outcome. I have been waiting for a sunny day to take a picture of Mr Kite. I found a perfect corner in the window ledge. I managed to find some white sheets for the ''session''. Unfortunately, they were curved and undulating and having no extra ones I tried to make it professional.  All this showcase is after Photoshop edit.  On those shoots I wanted to emphasise his posture. Nevertheless, it is still a bit stiff. Here I captured all his attributes in front of him. And one more, with his hands up. Which personally, I can compare them with gorilla's.  I took two pictures from different angles. In order to zoom in the portrait details. In addition, one from the front. I made a few mistakes regarding background preparation. I could glue or taped pages together to avoid the gaps. However, the software edit made a brighter impression, which is definitely an advantage.  Maybe a thicker paper and front light would reach a more prof...

Art Portfolio Project: First update - The story

When I took a look for the sign off sheet, it made me think about the story for my Leporello. I pointed out the initial ideas and spirit of the whole story.  It will not be act-playing roles, no dialogues. This six pieces story will take a viewer into a mysterious world of Native Americans.  I spent a lot of time thinking about how I want to present the culture and sense of spiritual world perceive by tributes eyes. I interested in the beliefs of this culture. I want to start explaining the background for the strip. Native Americans believed that all living things were watching over by guardian spirits. That could be; trees, wind, animals or people. Mostly, forces of nature.  Usually, the young boys were overcoming the ''journey'' to become a man. They believed that the guardian spirit, once fund, would bestow a special power on the boy and then, he would return to the tribe. Meaning of great spirit was a bit similar to be watched by an angel in the Christian religi...
