This week on Art Portfolio classes we are looking after artist research. To understand the meaning of someone's piece, the most important thing (which will help you to understand) is the personality. Without knowledge of someone's experiences and roots, we could take someone's work as pointless.
One of the magnificent paintings were breaking the rules of art. The reason is, that artists have been open for themselves. From the early XVIII, it is possible to divide the traditional academic works of the personal ones. It began from unique perceive, especially Turner's Rain, Steam and Speed. Even then, in 1844 the piece consists of a bit of abstraction. But widely known, unusual captured landscapes made by Claude Monet. Historians say that those full of depths and colours are because of a sort of illness. For example, Degas had a retinal eye disease. Furthermore, mentioned before Monet had cataracts.
I think the source of an unusual painting of those times was at their fingertips. Maybe they were enough brave to show up in sunlight.
Either, I should begin this post with my personal piece, called 'body of research'. Which is not looks like the template from the class.
In general, this piece is an illustration of my life and feelings. It starts from the left side, with my childhood. I the middle, me starring at the hanged old photos, it shows the current time. Underneath is my years of training at the athletic club (4 years ago I quit). And the right side is the future.
Honestly, I do not use to explain each part of my work. It is hard because it is personal. I know, that even if someone saw the drawing and explanation, still do not know me.
I appreciate the unnamed titles of works. It is forcing to imagine or research someone's intentions. Even on displays, artists rather talk about fewer intimacies things.
The final piece reminds me of a work of Polish artist Jerzy Duda-Gracz and his Field Hamlet in polish Hamlet Polny. Made in a time after a second world war when the communist entered Poland. It was a chaotic and restless period for citizens. This painting presents a moment in stagnation. It is hard to explain, this piece is based on polish theatre and the scenography of Hamlet.

An interesting post - I understand this exercise was very personal, but some text to describe some of your experiences would have helped (in particular about your sporting achievements and why you 'quit'). It's up to you how much information you give about yourself, so you can afford to be selective.
ReplyDeleteOn another issue, have a look at Joe Sacco's work 'The Great War' from 2016 as an example of a piece of work in Leporello form. Have a look at this link (with annotations from Sacco: (http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/books/2013/11/joe_sacco_s_panorama_of_world_war_i_s_battle_of_the_somme_the_great_war.html?via=gdpr-consent) It was turned into a mural on the Paris Subway: https://www.jamesmellorcreative.com/cartoons-pictures-with-power/
