Set Project: Illustrating the lyrics

I had spent few days on puzzling ideas in my head. My brainstorm process filled the whole space on the Milanote page. And still, I had nothing to came up with. Ideas strongly repetitive the original Naive art's ideas. I had only a picture of simple landscapes, buildings or plants. However, it had not a particular clue and explanation why. After the last session with the storytelling exercise, I came to conclusion. The value is measured by the backstory. The intends and reasons. Emotional connection to the topic.

It would not be art if I would not have any personal feelings.

One thing I surely know is following the theme title:

Primitivism. Enjoy a ride into the past.

The theme can be interpreted in my way.

Therefore, I chose the most convenient idea from my amazing ''five'' post. 

It will be an illustration of the lyrics from the 60s. 

I was not sure, whether this concept would be suitable for this theme. On the other, album covers from the psychedelic era had strong, saturated colours. This tends to seek to strip their subjects to their essentials (colours and forms) The wavy shapes and primary colours intentionally chosen as a recall to the roots.

Same as the simplified paintings from the Primitivism era.

For comparison, I selected one of Gauguin's painting:

Gauguin, Mahan no atua (Day of the Gods), 1894 

Taking under workshop Gauguin's piece, it has flat ''waving'' shapes in the foreground. It is the only unusual element contrary to the background events. The water seemed to be magical and full of mystery. This reminded me of a composition and colour range from the following albums:

Martin Sharp, (Cream) Disraeli Gears, 1967

Michael Cooper, (The Rolling Stones) Their satanic majesties, 1967

The interesting fact is, that the music in that period had taken inspiration from African or Indian music. Instruments such as Sitara for instance has been played for the first time in The Beatles album - Rubber Soul in 1965. Then, till the 70' has been emerged hundreds of songs, generally in the psychedelic era. The same contribution got the music as the fine art a few decades ago. By writing this, I tend to emphasise a milestone in modern music. 

A pushing power into step a something new appears when the subject of matter is growing weary off. From the art history, the same had happened with the Academic period. In the music, after simultaneous ballads.

When impressionism set out in the world, from the first time it used to be criticized and taunted. As well, it used to be with rock and roll.

Those two, very important ways of expression have a lot in common.

Therefore, I believe that there is still a connection between music and visual art. With that background, I wanted to sum up my intends regarding this project. 

As I enjoy interpreting lyrics and imaging the story. I want to use the initial knowledge from Primitivism and later inspiration taken from the late 60' to create four illustrations. 

I am not sure yet the exact songs I will be based on, but certainly will be taken from the psychedelic era. The chosen text should include exotic or external elements.
