This week initially shows the very first achievements regarding the Set Project.
On the timescale, I pointed out that I will establish the layout for the song-page-strip.
I made some calculations.
The first factor, was accessibility to the materials, to be exact - the paper. I do not have a special watercolour paper, as far as I remember I was dissatisfied with the sheet facture. Therefore, I found it easier to use a high gsm paper from the A3 sketchbook from the last term. However, I intend to redraw the A4 format in the middle and work on this resolution in the vertical orientation.
My idea of creating each song page goes as it follows:
First, on the ready-made layout starting from the top I going to sketch an interpretation of about 1-2 verses. Then, in the block below (which will be shorter) I am going to leave the space for the lyrics. The question was, how I suppose to insert that text? To keep the next page, I do not want to hand-write all script. Then I came up with a digitalized version when in the software I would fit the lyric lines onto blank spaces.
On this scheme, I want to make per page 4 rows. The top one for illustration, second for text, third for illustration and the last one for text. The title of the song will be on the lower left side of the page.
Deducting from my calculation, for the A4 page, I leave the 2,5cm space from the top with 1 cm margins. The block for drawing has 6 cm and for the lyrics has 4,5cm. It gave me a quite seasonable space to work on.
I am planning to share the sample of one strip based on the song from sgt.pepper album.
Regarding the paper, if you don't use watercolour paper (and I don't think that would be suitable for this project) use a cartridge paper (120-160gsm) as it is porous (will soak up some of the moisture if you use watercolour, but may ripple) or Bristol board. the latter is good for layout drawings, so may suit your work. You could try colouring with Pro-Marker pens (good for blending) which you can purchase here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=promarkers&i=office-products&ref=nb_sb_noss if you don't already have them.
