Set Project: Smart Objectives

Alison Czinkota, The balance, 2020

In this term, for the Set Project, I want to create 4 pages long comic adaptation of the album by The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band.

The graphic design project I will carry out will use the theme of Primitivism by evoking the time capsule to the late 60' and influences from the ''psychedelic era''. I intend to use watercolours and ink pens, the final outcomes will be edited in software. I will use a motif from one of the illustrations to create a sculpture (3D). The final outcome will capture one of the elements from the 2D series. I will digitalize complete illustrations along with lyrics. The 3D object will be photographed. The target market for this collection will be people of any age (preferable adults). The colour palette will be based on Primitivism and futuristic outcomes. The complete digital portfolio will present each illustration in the gallery on my website by the deadline at the beginning of June.

Specific -

I will be designing 4 illustrations and one sculpture. Lyrics from the Sgt. Pepper's album will be my main inspiration. For the 2D set, I will use watercolours and ink pens. The sculpture will be made from clay in small size using carving tools.

By drawing illustrations I will keep the Primitivism colour range alongside the 60's album covers and designs.

Unlike the previous term, I will be focusing on well-consisted data in order to clarify the connection with the theme.

Measurable -

I am sure that when I reached enough background information, I can easily begin by illustrating each lyric. The interpretation part will be the easiest because before that I intent to make potential samples.

The set of four illustrations will be managed separately, therefore, unlike to the previous project, I do not need to create a narrative story.

Attainable -

In the last term, I almost did not manage to measure the time given consistently. This time I changed the complexity of the project in order to deliver it on time.

On this project, I want to be well prepared and I achieve this by side of knowing how to begin and finish the outcomes. Then, I had no time to present and summing up key points of the project.

Relevant -

I have 7 weeks ahead of me to present my outcomes. In line with the objectives, the well managed time and goals are relevant.

Being up to date should be prospered to achieve it before the deadline.

Furthermore, we have no more 2D3D sessions so I can entirely focus on outcomes. In the last term, I was distracted and in rush. Prospering more time and the greater willingness in finishing each piece I can successfully spend time on the reflection afterwards.

Time-based -

The deadline is in seven weeks and assuming the main points mentioned above, I will archive finish results within week 5-6. I will pull greater effort into final improvement and reflection.

I assume to spend a maximum of one week per illustration. As I mentioned, the process of making a 3D piece should not take longer than few days as well.

It was helpful? Yes, it definitely helped me to summarise mine intends as an achievable goal.

To concise the main points;

In this term, I will focus on the theme 'Primitivism'. I will be using the tracks from the album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles to illustrate the four pages long book with a front cover. The targeted audience is specified as an all-ages group. The collection of 4 pages will be sketched and painted by hand using watercolours and ink pens by colours related to the psychedelic era. The finished pieces will be edited in software and embedded in the lyrics. The sculpture will be related to one of the illustrations. The completed work will be presented as a folded book and as a showcase of every single page.

Research on Odilon Redon

According to the title of my blog post, today I am going to take deeper research of the XIX century artist - Odilon Redon. All the information should be based on my notes, which I took during the class. In terms of preparing for future lecturers in University life. But I found out difficult to caught the important notes in the current situation. I believe that the lecturers in real life, in a face to face system, will be more beneficial for both sides. Anyway, I would like to support the pieces of information about the lifetime of today's character. In order to make my writing more valuable.  He was born in Bordeaux, France on April 20, 1840. Died in  His nickname was created after mother's first name, Odile. His father pulled him to study architecture instead of art, but in 1857 Redon failed the entrance exams for architectural studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. But Odilon stayed in Paris with influential, famous friends such as Charles Baudelaire, Gustave Flaubert, and Edg...

Set Project: Final 3D piece

It is high time to show the final 3D outcome. I have been waiting for a sunny day to take a picture of Mr Kite. I found a perfect corner in the window ledge. I managed to find some white sheets for the ''session''. Unfortunately, they were curved and undulating and having no extra ones I tried to make it professional.  All this showcase is after Photoshop edit.  On those shoots I wanted to emphasise his posture. Nevertheless, it is still a bit stiff. Here I captured all his attributes in front of him. And one more, with his hands up. Which personally, I can compare them with gorilla's.  I took two pictures from different angles. In order to zoom in the portrait details. In addition, one from the front. I made a few mistakes regarding background preparation. I could glue or taped pages together to avoid the gaps. However, the software edit made a brighter impression, which is definitely an advantage.  Maybe a thicker paper and front light would reach a more prof...

Art Portfolio Project: First update - The story

When I took a look for the sign off sheet, it made me think about the story for my Leporello. I pointed out the initial ideas and spirit of the whole story.  It will not be act-playing roles, no dialogues. This six pieces story will take a viewer into a mysterious world of Native Americans.  I spent a lot of time thinking about how I want to present the culture and sense of spiritual world perceive by tributes eyes. I interested in the beliefs of this culture. I want to start explaining the background for the strip. Native Americans believed that all living things were watching over by guardian spirits. That could be; trees, wind, animals or people. Mostly, forces of nature.  Usually, the young boys were overcoming the ''journey'' to become a man. They believed that the guardian spirit, once fund, would bestow a special power on the boy and then, he would return to the tribe. Meaning of great spirit was a bit similar to be watched by an angel in the Christian religi...
