Those sketches were make in order to help me develop the basis of particular art movement.
Below I made some simplification to get to know how the Primitivism works. When I understand the colour themes and the structure of objects, I can easily get through the theme.
I have chosen one of the Paul Gauguin's outcome depicting three puppies with three glasses. I took under the workshop the still life from the bottom of this painting.
Paul Gauguin, Still Life with Three Puppies,1888
On the very first steps I mixed primary colours together in order to reached proper tone and saturation. After that, I painted shapes of fruits.
During the process, I amplified clean colours as a reflection of each fruits. I did not want to mix them with brown or black, because the shapes were already outlined with a thick dark line.
I do not have enough thin brushes as Gauguin had, therefore the effect is not enough satisfactory for me. Nevertheless, I have used acrylic paints instead of oil paints.
Putting aside the results, my only purpose to made this sample was the illustration.
I grabbed a small sketchbook to reinterpret this picture. I wanted to make it as simple as possible. Anyway, I will made new approach in near future.
Here, I almost eliminate painted shadows, leaving brush touches on purpose. The black lines I made by using ink pens and brush.
I still have not reached satisfactory results. I thought that I had started the first painting in the wrong way. Therefore, I redraw the same shoot using only ink. Firstly, I outlined shapes, but still, I needed something. It was blank inside. In order to create a space, I amplified grey ''patches'' in different tones.
This personal task was beneficial for me. It explained to me the rules and the meaning of primary colours. I am convinced, that when I using the same technique and copy at least one painting, I would feel like the exact artist for a minute.
The reproducing process in its own way is even more beneficial. Simplifying the picture opening an important skill for an illustrator. It is a long term process but always gives tremendous opportunities to obtain success in further career.

These colour and black and white sketches are really well done. I'd like to see more of this approach with your project work - last term there were a lot of pencil sketches, seeing you work like this demonstrates the skills you have and how you can apply them to your project. As a painter, I really enjoy how you create form with colour, mixing your colours is impressive too. Keep this up!
