Art Portfolio: Yoko Ono and John - Project development

Today I decided to give it a try with watercolour paints.

I have almost no experience with watercolours (except the last semester, where we made a still nature on the face to face classes). Therefore, persuading the inspiration taken from Gibson's cartoons, I decided to challenge myself with the new paints.

On the last project, I came to the conclusion to put aside the digital painting. Therefore in this 2D series, I want to use my ''by hand'' ability to coloured each page of the book.

For now, I have finished the fine line drawing sheets. The next step is about painting all those pages on their copies. I left the high gsm sheets especially for the watery substance of those paints.

I considered making a trial version before working on the original pieces. I decided to work with the last topic of my consideration - Yoko Ono biography. In this approach, I learned how to visualize people's appearance and how to implement background to the motif.

As a warm-up exercise, I picked the song which was playing in my head this morning; I know (I know) from the album Mind Games. This track is about the feelings directed to Ono, it had a meaning of confession. Their relationship has up and down's, however they were normal people.

The years have passed so quickly

One thing I've understood

I am only learning

To tell the trees from the wood

I know what's coming down

And I know where it's coming from

And I know and I'm sorry (yes I am)

But I never could speak my mind

And I know just how you feel

And I know now what I have done

And I know and I'm guilty (yes I am)

But I never could read your mind

I know what I was missing

But now my eyes can see

I put myself in your place

As you did for me

Today I love you more than yesterday

Right now I love you more right now

And I know what's coming down

I can feel where it's coming from

And I know it's getting better (all the time)

As we share in each other's minds

Today I love you more than yesterday

Right now I love you more right now

Oh ho no more crying

I started with a sketch. I made this after listening to a whole song. I decided to place the relevant object suggested his ''eye-opening experience''.
I was not sure how to start, I have watched some illustrator's tutorials from yt. Thereafter, I left the first layer of bleached colours.
On the next layer I overcome my fear of painting pure colours next to each other.

I took a shoot of a sample the circle shows the first layer and the next ones are pure and saturative.
I worked on details on the tree branches. However, there was a lack of facial features on their faces, with the fine liners I introduced a distinction between each part. I have a problem with the waved sheet. It has a main place in the foreground, I could not leave it blank. Therefore with light brushstrokes, I made something which supposed to imitate handwritten text.

By summing up my efforts, I am glad that I crossed the fear with colouring. Still, there is a lot to learn, especially the colour palette and stroking shadow. Nevertheless, it closely features the comic strip likeness, which by coming to the final steps in my project I will evaluate.

Set Project: The exact reason why and sketches

I have not straightened why I chose to illustrate the lyrics. As you may have noticed, I know quite a lot about music from the last century and always dreamed about the connection with visual art. Especially in this case, when the album is laid out as a story. Therefore, taking advantage of this opportunity I intend to make something familiar using illustration. You see, songs have a lyric - a story. And I want to share with those, by giving my version. In fact, Primitivism is related to the 60s pop culture and the insights I will publish gradually. The album that I chose is unique in terms of the tracklist.  Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band  has no gaps between tracks. Therefore they made an album that sounds like one continuous song. ''Highly debated it is considered as a one of the first concept album'' (The HollyHobs, 2020). Some of the songs had been established according to the newspapers headers/stories.  The reasons why I chose this relation to the theme ...

Art Portfolio Project: First update - The story

When I took a look for the sign off sheet, it made me think about the story for my Leporello. I pointed out the initial ideas and spirit of the whole story.  It will not be act-playing roles, no dialogues. This six pieces story will take a viewer into a mysterious world of Native Americans.  I spent a lot of time thinking about how I want to present the culture and sense of spiritual world perceive by tributes eyes. I interested in the beliefs of this culture. I want to start explaining the background for the strip. Native Americans believed that all living things were watching over by guardian spirits. That could be; trees, wind, animals or people. Mostly, forces of nature.  Usually, the young boys were overcoming the ''journey'' to become a man. They believed that the guardian spirit, once fund, would bestow a special power on the boy and then, he would return to the tribe. Meaning of great spirit was a bit similar to be watched by an angel in the Christian religi...

Set Procject: Finalisation

Here, I sharing with the process of placeing imagines into a mockup. I solved the issue with proper cutting the document. And also presented the second visualisation with a blue background.
