Set Project: 3D piece proccess - painting

Today I decided to colour Mr Kite figure.

Before painting straight on the clay, I made sketches with watercolour pencils to verify his clothing. I took the colour palette from the book page that I had made before.

As you can see in the picture, I made a simple posture overview as he stands. In addition, I considered his face profile. I decided to left blue eyes, firstly, because it reminds me of scooby doo as well. This is a part of my childhood. Moreover, the date of production brings back to the hippie movement. And I realize that characters from the cartoon are wearing complementary colours. This turned me to signalise one of the conceptions regarding that colour palette.

Firstly, I painted the skin in a light pink shade. In one go I painted the top shape and left the space for trousers. I decided to paint his feet as well.

Here, I painted his top in purple.

And definitely, he has no support to stand on his feet.

I had persuaded my imagination regarding his outfit, therefore, the trousers I took from my illustration.

Here, you can see the eyes.
As I mentioned before, I was planning to make a trampoline. I want to transit the drum from the Sgt.Pepper photo session. Therefore, I have checked the colours. The hard combination to select was because Mr Kite has purple and green colours on. I have suggested with the colour wheel how I can compare those tones. I have definitely known that orange or yellow would be matching.
I made extra sketches regarding this.

As you can see there I put the colour samples and drum shapes.
Also, by the time of painting, I started with yellow strips. In general, I decided to stay with the left down corner version. I noticed, that the strips are too thick and I could not fill the blanks with green and blue.

I changed conception into triangle shapes. Moreover, this pattern does not repeat Mr Kite's trousers.

Here I captured the last part of the process. The hula hoop I coloured in yellow with red diagonal lines.

  1. Good process and attention to detail, this post could perhaps do with a bit more detail in the commentary. Otherwise, looks good, well done.

Set Project: Final 3D piece

It is high time to show the final 3D outcome. I have been waiting for a sunny day to take a picture of Mr Kite. I found a perfect corner in the window ledge. I managed to find some white sheets for the ''session''. Unfortunately, they were curved and undulating and having no extra ones I tried to make it professional.  All this showcase is after Photoshop edit.  On those shoots I wanted to emphasise his posture. Nevertheless, it is still a bit stiff. Here I captured all his attributes in front of him. And one more, with his hands up. Which personally, I can compare them with gorilla's.  I took two pictures from different angles. In order to zoom in the portrait details. In addition, one from the front. I made a few mistakes regarding background preparation. I could glue or taped pages together to avoid the gaps. However, the software edit made a brighter impression, which is definitely an advantage.  Maybe a thicker paper and front light would reach a more prof...

Set Project: The exact reason why and sketches

I have not straightened why I chose to illustrate the lyrics. As you may have noticed, I know quite a lot about music from the last century and always dreamed about the connection with visual art. Especially in this case, when the album is laid out as a story. Therefore, taking advantage of this opportunity I intend to make something familiar using illustration. You see, songs have a lyric - a story. And I want to share with those, by giving my version. In fact, Primitivism is related to the 60s pop culture and the insights I will publish gradually. The album that I chose is unique in terms of the tracklist.  Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band  has no gaps between tracks. Therefore they made an album that sounds like one continuous song. ''Highly debated it is considered as a one of the first concept album'' (The HollyHobs, 2020). Some of the songs had been established according to the newspapers headers/stories.  The reasons why I chose this relation to the theme ...
