Set Project: Merging pages in software

Today I made an attempt in creating the first page A Day In The Life in Adobe InDesign.

I found this software as much convenient in terms of designing the text straight on the ready-made page. As you can see, I completed the page by inserting the right two verses from the song I had illustrated.

I decided to create more pages. To make a ready layout of the book, I ticked the option with flattered pages. Each time, in order to correctly insert a PSD format picture. I followed the options by choosing; File->Place. Then I could change the size of the image, however, it is a bit confusing, because of two active rectangles around the image. One is for cropping the desired sector, the second is for stretching the size of the image. Therefore, in order to change the object into a particular capacity, I need to pinpoint the whole object and then I can move it for example, or change the size keeping the original proportion.

I appreciate that I had calculated the page outline. By looking into sheets from a distance I can fit the strips of each side.

Unfortunately, I have connection issues and the second home screen was disconnecting me from time to time. This leads to lost all the changes in my file. I logged in again and repeat all steps. When I was doing this, I discover how to simply resize the images. I was needlessly pressing Ctrl and Alt, but it did not change anything. Thereafter by doing the second approach I switched the combination into Shift plus Ctrl. It was the right decision, now, I can change the original size of the file. It accelerated the process.

Nevertheless, the text is still not well fitted into the page. Maybe I left too much space for the text, I have an impression that on this point it does not fulfil the space. Moreover, it looks unnecessary.

I did not insert the cover, because it needs to be edited in Photoshop.
The main titles are finished.
I left the last page, Mr Kite. When I placed an extra page, it automatically switched to the left side. This would give me, by opening the book, for instance, two blank pages with a book back. I have not considered the design of the last page. I think that cover is complicated enough, therefore, by leaving a one colour page, it will harmonise the overall look.

  1. This looks interesting, good layout of images and text. There is good ongoing reflection here as well.

Set Project: The exact reason why and sketches

I have not straightened why I chose to illustrate the lyrics. As you may have noticed, I know quite a lot about music from the last century and always dreamed about the connection with visual art. Especially in this case, when the album is laid out as a story. Therefore, taking advantage of this opportunity I intend to make something familiar using illustration. You see, songs have a lyric - a story. And I want to share with those, by giving my version. In fact, Primitivism is related to the 60s pop culture and the insights I will publish gradually. The album that I chose is unique in terms of the tracklist.  Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band  has no gaps between tracks. Therefore they made an album that sounds like one continuous song. ''Highly debated it is considered as a one of the first concept album'' (The HollyHobs, 2020). Some of the songs had been established according to the newspapers headers/stories.  The reasons why I chose this relation to the theme ...

Art Portfolio: Planning primary research

For your project, you will need some primary research so that you can either understand your market and focus your work more clearly in a real-world context or you will need background research to inform your project work that comes from a primary source. I conducted research on familiar comic books or something with past matters content. I found a story of the beginnings of The Beatles. It is also related to my project.  The  Baby's in Black: The Story of Astrid Kirchherr & Stuart Sutcliffe  takes reader back to the early 60s, when Paul, John, George, Pete and Stuart decided to extend their musical abilities by playing in Kaiserkeller club, Hamburg. The book was originally published in Germany in 2010. Therefore, the vibe of this book ideally reflects the place and experiences. This ultimate graphic novel has 195 pages. Accordingly black&white design reflecting the title. The author, Arne Bellstorf used individual renditions by pulling a lot of effort into...

Set Project: Sketches and coming back to the first plan

In the last days, I concluded that I should focus on the reasons why I choose this topic and the style of this project. I think I started to be weak and not sure what I want to do. I think the reason is in a large number of researches. Same with techniques and artists to look at. I summarise that I am not capable to mix various inspirations at once. I came back to my first inspiration Anto van Hertbruggen. Because I always wanted to make art like that, no matter what's it gonna take. Here I will discuss the elements which I want to use to combine this pice in one. Here is the whole work with the background. As I mentioned before, I looked at how Anton work on his illustrations. He usually filling few sheets in drawings (as layers for one illustration).  First, I found a great view on google maps. I am interested in the territories of Canada and the northern landscape. The place is in Northwest Territories, in Yellowknife.  click I sketch this place on two sheets of paper. Then...
