On today's class, I will be moving the inspiration for my sign-off project. According to my series of 4 graffiti conceptions, it can find out really controversial. Taking this opportunity, I would like to bring closer a Banksy's creations. This project will include aspects relating to his conception of urban art.
Banksy is an anonymous artist from Bristol. His spray paintings in the 1990s were truly unique. In those times music and art had a major impact on the young generation. He is using a well-known technique with stencils. 'He was making street art into something else, a kind of performance art' (Shove, G. (ed.) (2012). The aim points of his art have a attend to attack the establishment. He gets into the media through performance art. Provoking people to change mindsets about street art. Not as a devastating the public area. To point out the non-ordinary value of art. Give the base to considering the message. Leave a trail in someone's mind. According to Shove, G. (ed.) (2012) 'He (Banksy) attacks the establishment to remind you of your own power, not just for the sake of it.' I am agreeing with his point of view. The most convincing argument which clarifies the sense of graffiti is on the last page of the introduction Banksy: You Are an Acceptable Level of Threat and if You Were Not You Would Know About It, 'The point is, art should be truly democratic, truly a part of everybody's life and not just another gang bang for the over privileged.' (Shove, G. (ed.) (2012)
It is so hard to check the real author of those quotes. The book is probably made by Banksy and an editor. I can't even find the places where the photos were taken.
I would like to add for the summary, that a final project will be related to his way of fighting with particular events. I would like to take advantage of this prerogative. Following to my progression route, the street art project will be including initial graphic aspects.
Finally, why I chose this artist? Looking at overall aspects, the reason for that depends on my personality. Urban artists are mutineers in general. I have I thought that I can slightly compare with them. Not with everyone of course, but Banksy is a privileged icon on the Bristol (not only) streets. From his book, I find out that he did not prepare sketches. He is only depending on photography, the marvellous is his original edit. Digression and gallows humour go with his job.

Good choice of artist and some nice use of quotation and citation, but be careful about including too much of that without responding to the work yourself. i would find and add many more of Banksy's art and discuss the style, content and colours used in relation to your own work and really give your own opinion about the work, as well as how others have responded.
ReplyDeleteYou really looked at this in depth which is very good. However, maybe add some of your thoughts and ideas on different aspects of his work. I really like that you chose to design street art and I can't wait to see what you will create.

ReplyDeleteI am amazed how your research ended up even if we can not find too much information about this artist you did really well without it
