Set Project: 3D piece process

The 3D sculpture of Mr Kite I started much earlier. Nevertheless, it was an unsuccessful effort. By that time, I realized that forming the unusual diagonal direction in clay is difficult. For sure, I can gain decant effect, however without the expression. In this post, I will talk through the work which I have done with essential commentary. For the first effort, I had tried to come out with the shape. According to my sketches, the  silhouette  supposes to be tensed. Moreover, in the middle of his body, I intend to place a hula hoop. By the time, Mr Kite looked like a gorilla. This was the most obnoxious part it hesitated me to continue craving this sculpture. The other day, I made a new ''body'' to start with. By all means, I tried to show the expression of his movement. I have some issues with his hands. Unfortunately, then I did not come up with a wire or some kind of skeleton.  I continued to crave the body. His legs were a problem, I was dissatisfied with the l...

Set Project: 3D project research

Research on the series of 2D pieces was based on the futuristic era in dominance, however, the Naive art colour palette was stated within the assumptions. Nevertheless, at this time I would like to base my 3D outcome on original figures from the movie  Yellow Submarine.  I already mentioned the importance of this movie in my project. This last piece is related to the book, actually on the song  Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite!.  This particular page has caught the features of the main character. Therefore, I wanted to make a figure of him. In my mind, I have imagined the look of him.  By searching the web, I found the figures of The Beatles from this iconic animation. They were made in 1999/2000. For now, is really hard to buy them they are very rare.  The Beatles figurine; John Lennon,  McFarlane Toys, 1999 The company of those toys, McFarlane, made two series. I especially like the appliance of instruments and uniforms. This is a decorative s...

Set Project: Book Cover painting

Here it is! The Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club book cover. Proudly, it is almost the finish of my long-running troubles and misconception. Unfortunately not. The cover has the most complexities in comparison to all rest. I needed to paint all page A4 with a little cassette of watercolours. My ideas regarding this page are far different. First of all, I took a lot of effort to make characters of fab four. Considering the small details in facial shadings and wearing, I needed to start doing it first. Moreover, in the first post with colouring, I mentioned all the essentials that I have in my room. These are - acrylic colours.  With acrylic colours, I can cover larger fields, in this case, the background. I have written before all colour specification for each place. That was one of the not too many right decisions in this process. I was thinking about what to do with the title ''Lonely Hearts''. I decided to wipe it out. Nevertheless, I will create the rest of the titles...

Set Project: Front cover

I decided to finish all sketches and then take the cover on the workshop.  On my project plan timescale, I considered the cover page part as a second step (after the first song page). It was a wrong assumption. I needed to finish all pages inside to summarise the colours and aspects of the project. Only with a base taken from the work content I can assimilate thoroughly all elements into a cover. For me, it should reflect things and colours taken from inside, as a form of introduction. Then the viewer will probably know what to expect. Firstly, I made a suggestive line in the middle to establish a triangle like composition. On the bottom, I placed a circle - the drum with the tile  Sgt. Pepper.  To indicated what the book is about. I could not change it, because it is a recognizable element.  On the top, I developed three characters. Beginning from; Ringo, John, Paul and George above the drum. The rest of the members have put arms around themselves. All four will be ...

Set Project: Page Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!

Today within the framework of the project development, I am sharing with the next page of the book. In order to keep the balance, I started sketching an intuitive scenario of this song. Firstly, I need to carefully accumulate all my ideas regarding particular lyric. When there is a possibility to split the text into half it makes the process easier. Whether it is not going to be that way, I take the key points of each of the verse to fit into the strip.  In most of the cases so far, I put two verses into one strip and so on.  By sketching this illustration, I wanted to keep a balance of the shapes; by meaning characters and the background. Because previously, I used to implicating dozen of curved lines with distorted shapes. By doing this piece, I reached the contrast by placing a human alongside the texture.  In the case of designing the numbers, I had a problem. I left this square for a while in order to dig into the examples from my previous research. I was consi...

Set Project: Sgt.Pepper song page

Today I decided on a new approach to finishing the next song This time I thoroughly managed the colours on the illustration. Frankly, I am glad that the last time I have written down the colours which I deducted, would be matching to the text. Therefore, I allow myself to determine what I should start first. There is a thought: Firstly I colouring the lightest part, such as stars. There are too little. And again, I blame myself for the wrong format and paper. It is, even more, harder with simple shapes. Well when I was drawing with ink, it seems too much easier. Apparently not, it was the biggest wrong decision. During the painting, I was literally willing to swap the way into the device. Then I would not cross my biggest fear, and especially for this task, I have chosen the most demanding type to fulfil myself. As you can see, I filled the various light colours. And it looks neat in comparison to the previous page. However, there is always something to destroy, as I did with the ...

Set Project: Project development for the cover (5 sketches from the class)

Today I was up to designing my version of the cover. It is a challenge for me because designing characters is one of my strongest weakness. Even more when it comes to set the cover. As you can assume, I gave myself a high expectation. However, I played music to let my thoughts blew away. I was searching for the best shots from the photo session from March 1967. Fortunately, as I mentioned in the research post, the inner cover is basically composed of a group portrait. It gave me more possibilities, even more, because web sources giving endless possibility.  Michael Cooper Studios, Inner cover picture for Sgt.Pepper, 1967 I usually place the picture in front of me when I intend to sketch something. And the results were not always satisfying. I think that the reason is in the unceasing gaze upon the real-life photo. Then, it turned me to keeping the rational shapes and proportions. In illustrations, the key is in keeping the simplified form possible, for sure the facial feature...

Set Project: Front cover titles inspiration

In hence to do not repeat the title version from the original album, I decided to collect some inspiration from the late 60s era. Hasbro, Mamas and the Papas Show Biz Babies Dolls Group , 1967 Recently, I have been searching for  The Mamas and the Papas . I was wondering how their look or the album covers has changed after their top-listed song  California dreamin'.  They have taken over hippie style being more recognizable. Frankly, Mama Cass is definitely an icon in this group. She was always wearing colourful dresses, but this time the rest of the group has changed the look. Apparently, I found out that the group have a collaboration with Hasbro in 1967. It represents interesting music trade. What surprised me the most, was the universality of the doll collection with the famous singers of the time. Each doll is 4' tall and came with a 33 1/3 RPM vinyl 7" yellow or blue flexi-disc record and has a facsimile autograph and photo on the back with bubble-card. That w...

Set Project: Front cover - Further research & the direction of my project

As I mentioned the tremendous value of the Sgt. Pepper album in rock music. I would like to elaborate further on the cover design.   It is also considering as a countercultural movement soundtrack, by summarizing change that was occurring in social conciseness.  Therefore, initially, it is probably the most influential album with the most recognisable cover. It had taken a lot of money for this ''concept idea''. In 1967 after touring, The Beatles focused on working in the studio. Which had a lot of speculation mixed with crowds of yelling teenagers waiting for any information regarding the next gigs. The reason why I wrote this, have a lot in common in an artist's life. After bigger performances with the same hits, they had not evaluated. The inflexion point had the concert in Shea stadium. Met with terrible disappointment and lack of control of the screaming audience. Therefore, without 'feedback', an important part of success and joy, it had to be stopped...
